COPY // understudy is a publication of works produced for The Plaza Principle, an exhibition that took place within the now demolished 1980s Leeds Shopping Plaza. Responding to the context of temporary cultural activity in partially derelict retail settings, COPY // understudy offered an insertion, suggestion, proposition and document based around notions of the stand in – the examined, inquired or performed; the temporary, theoretical or illusory.
Contributors include Huw Andrews, Fabienne Audeoud, David Berridge, Rachel Lois Clapham, Emma Cocker, Sam Curtis, Charlotte A Morgan, Flora Robertson and Rebecca Weeks.
COPY // understudy was printed by Joanna Loveday and Charlotte A Morgan using a photocopier and bound with staples. The publication was presented on a display unit by Charlotte A Morgan, designed in dialogue with her printed contribution.
The Plaza Principle was curated by Derek Horton and Chris Bloor and took place at Leeds Shopping Plaza, Leeds, 21st – 30th October 2010.
