Papers, Fictions, Scripts & Circles

Exploring forms, processes, structures and concerns within contemporary art writing and publishing, Papers, Fictions, Scripts & Circles combines a series of themed discussions, four artist print editions and an accompanying publication. The project was produced as part of print it: COPY in residence at Site Gallery, 10th August – 8th September 2012.

Audio recordings of the discussions can be found below. The events  featured seventeen invited speakers with audience contributions and took place over brunch. Four silkscreen print editions were launched at the events, and presented practices which . The prints are reproduced alongside a collection of speakers’ notes in a Papers, Fictions, Scripts & Circles publication, which acts as an errant guide or index. Discussions and prints are documented on the slide show to the left.

Papers draws upon the history and significance of self-publishing, its implications today and the use of publication as medium or curated space. With Simon Cutts and Erica Van Horn (Coracle), Lynn Harris (AND publishing), David Osbaldeston and RGAP.

Saturday 18 August, 11am – 1pm: Fictions

Fictions explores the use and slipperiness of fiction and narrative in art and performance practices and their relation to experimental literature. With Jamie Crewe, Jennifer Hodgson, Tamarin Norwood and Alun Rowlands.

Saturday 25 August, 11am – 1pm: Scripts

Scripts focuses on printed or written works which act in relation to live elements or as diagrams or scores. With David Berridge,  Rachel Lois Clapham, Ami Clarke and Patrick Coyle.

Saturday 1 September, 11am – 1pm: Circles

Circles discusses the significance of spaces for sharing, storing, reading and activating printed work and the shifting roles of fairs, project spaces and networks in publishing practices. With Emma Cocker, Kit Hammonds, Simon Lewandowski and Francis Mckee.
